Back in the day, the only way to travel to Hawaii and the South Pacific was cruising in style on one of Matson Lines passenger ships. Matson magazine ads were created with a profusion of color by well-known artists and photographers. Enticing ads and travel posters lured mainlanders to tropical islands, palm trees, romantic sunsets, sweet smelling leis and a turquoise ocean. Vacationers packed their bags, surfers packed their boards and set sail to Hawaii on Matson Lines S.S. Lurline—first stop, Waikiki!
